Review: Ram 2500
Pick-up trucks are great vehicles, but buying one can be very intimidating. Those who willing to buy a pick-up truck for the first time, must carefully evaluate the features and specifications, to make the right choice. Ram trucks make a great choice, since they carry people with ease, are easy to drive and have the capability to tow a car or boat. However, there are many options to choose from, so you might get overwhelmed.
For the Ram2500 towing capacity varies from 6,940 to 17,970 lbs (which is much higher than the 1500).
In terms of payload, the Ram1500 can carry between 1,270 to 1,900 lbs; whereas the Ram2500 can carry between 1,410 to 3,970 lbs. So if hauling and towing is your primary focus, you must not look beyond the Ram2500; however, if that is not a priority, Ram 1500 makes a good choice.
Engine and Drivetrain Packages
Ram 1500 comes with a choice of 5.7-liter HEMI®, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engines, which offer good performance as well as fuel economy. For Ram 2500 the choices are 6.4-liter HEMI, 5.7-liter HEMI, and 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel, which offer higher performance. So people looking for a truck with high performance must choose Ram2500 over Ram1500.
Handling
With Ram1500, maneuvering in and out of tight spots is much easier compared to the Ram2500, since it has a considerably smaller turning radius. This means driving through time lanes and strict curves is much easier with the Ram1500.
Price
Price is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing the right pick-up truck. You can surely add or remove features to customize the truck and match up to your budget, but the actual price range gives you a good idea as to which truck makes the best choice for you.
The Ram1500 Tradesman starts at $26,045 and goes up to $51,325 for the base Limited edition; whereas the Ram2500 Tradesman starts at $31,585 and goes up to $57,385 for the basic Power Wagon Laramie. No doubt the Ram1500 costs less, but being much more capable Ram2500’s price is worth it.
So depending upon your personal requirements and purpose of owning a truck, you must choose between the Ram1500 and Ram2500. Both are excellent in their own ways, it is only that they are designed to fulfill different purposes.
